Find Your Wedding Dress In Three Steps

Your wedding gown is one of the most sentimental, personal and emotional purchases of your life! You'll want to find a dress that flaunts your best assets and is true to YOU! Trends come and go, but your personal style is timeless. All too often we meet brides who are trying to achieve a look that they've seen in magazines or a celebrity inspired style. When they slip into those dresses they just don't feel like themselves, we then use these next tips to help our brides find their dream dress! Keep reading so you too can find your wedding dress in three steps!

1. Take a look at your current wardrobe!

You'll notice a repeating style, fabric or neckline. Do you have a lot of lace skirts or shirts? Are strapless a-line dresses your go to for a Sunday out with the girls? Is your closet filled with high necklines? Take a few pointers from yourself and let your everyday style translate to your wedding style!

2. Find a few bridal designers who's styles you love.

Comb through your dream dress Pinterest board (we assumed you have one. obvis.) if you notice a you're constantly loving Stella York, or Watters or Pronovias gowns make note of that. You can also use The Knot wedding dress search engine to find designers you're really drawn to. When it's time for your bridal appointment, just let your stylist know which designers are your favorites. And we'll work our hardest to help you find one of their styles or something similar!

3. Consider the "style" of your wedding venue.

For example: if you're having a church ceremony, you might feel more comfortable in a dress with more coverage. Or if your venue is outdoors in the summer, you'll want to stay away from long sleeves - even though they're trending! And if your venue is in a barn or has rustic vibes, lace is a great fabric to go with, while on the other hand, if your venue in in a modern space like an art museum or industrial warehouse, clean lines and a structured fit are sure to make a statement! Overall, you want to make sure the aesthetic of your dress & venue are cohesive, so it all makes sense on your wedding day!

Finding the Perfect Venue

Finding the perfect venue is just one piece of the puzzle. Not only does the venue set the mood for the wedding but it’s also what is being presented to your guests. Sometimes little factors can be overlooked but taking into consideration all the aspects of a venue will ensure you are getting exactly what you want with the money you are putting in. There are a couple factors that go into deciding if it’s the venue that you and your fiance can truly see yourselves saying your vows in. Although these are not all the aspects that should be considered, these decisions are a few that should be of focus!

Traditional or Modern?

Warehouse 215 | Phoenix, AZ

It is important to decide on whether you are looking to have a traditional or modern wedding. As times evolve, holding weddings in restored buildings and halls has quickly become the current trend. Looking at what your fiancé has in mind and collaborating will make this decision easier. It also could help touring a couple different venues that you are drawn to and deciding on what catches your eye.

Location

When deciding on what style of wedding you want; it is also a good idea to look at whether you want to keep your wedding local to most of your guests or a destination. Destination weddings are always a fun idea but it can cost a greater chunk of money than you may have originally planned. A wedding is never going to be local to all your guests, but can be local to you, the bride and groom that will cut your costs on travel and lodging expenses. Have a serious talk about the location of your wedding before you start to reach out to venues. It will save you lots of time and headache!

  Is it easily accessible?

The day may be all about you and your new marriage but the guest’s happiness is also something to focus on. Ensuring that the location is easily accessible for the guests will allow them, and yourself, to relax and enjoy the day. The location needs to be easily accessible and easy to find. Also, when the guests arrive to the venue, there needs to be clear signage or direction as to where the ceremony or reception will be held.

 Inside or Outside?

While most people dream of having an outdoor wedding, there are different factors to consider. If you're opting for an outdoor wedding, make sure that the venue has a backup location or a backup plan if it should rain, snow or haboob (for us Arizonians). This will ensure your wedding isn't entirely ruined by mother nature. And boy, can she be unpredictable!

What is Your Budget?

Budget is the biggest deciding factor in where you would like your wedding to take place. Staying within your budget ensures that other parts of your wedding won’t suffer. Often if the venue is outside of the desired price range, it pulls money that was going to be used in a different area. It is important to know what money you can put where and to know that going over would only cause some difficulty to the planning process and would cause you to reevaluate. A great way to look at the venue and pricing is to inquire about packages or deals that they may offer. Sometimes they do not display what deals they have going on but taking the extra step to ask could save you a fair amount of money.

Picking the right venue for you is important and looking at all the potential questions you will come across will help you in the long run.

Tell Your Squad

So, you've got the ring and you've got a date set to propose. The next step is telling you & your fiance's inner circle. Be sure to share the news or ask her parents for approval and also share with your and her best friends! Be sure not to tell too many people - you won't want someone to slip and give away the big surprise!

Pick the Perfect Location

Now that you've got the ring and her friends & family's permission, you'll have to find the perfect proposal location. Take her to the spot where you first met, had your first kiss or first date. Take her to the spot where you exchanged 'I love you's' for the first time. What does your soon to be hubby like to do? Think about her hobbies, favorite restaurants, things on her bucket list. From here you can choose the perfect location to pop the question!

 Pick Your Paparazzi

Now that you've got your location in mind, it's time to bring in the backup! You'll want to spend a few weeks researching different photographers and possibly videographers to inquire about their pricing and availability for your proposal! When you're reaching out to these vendors, give them as much information as possible up front to avoid the back and forth. In your initial email, share the date, time, location, hour(s) needed and estimated budget you have for the proposal. After you've found a photographer that will work, you're onto your next step!

(Somewhat) Prep Your Boo

You won't want to give the surprise away BUT you will want your future fiance to have her nails done and photo ready! We promise, you don't want to put all of this work into a proposal photoshoot and have your fiance not happy with how she looks in the photos because you didn't tell her to get ready! (We can just imagine the meltdown now.. don't skip this step!) If you feel like you'll give the surprise away  - bring in the backup. Ask her best friend to take her to get her nails and makeup done. A day with the girls is less suspicious than you telling her to go get her nails done.

Guys - take it from us - she will LOVE the fact that you took the time to put together a proposal photo shoot. If you take us up on our advice, tag us in your proposal pics, we'd love to see them!

How to Achieve the Perfect Bridal Look

Having the perfect bridal look for your big day takes months of preparation, just like planning your wedding. Below we’re going to walk you through the steps of achieving the perfect bridal look via skin prep and also if you choose to do your bridal makeup on your own!

The first important step is starting with your skin. Your skin is the base of the makeup, so you’ll want to make sure your skin is on point! It is becoming more popular for brides to get a facial or series of facials before their special day. This will ensure your skin is exfoliated, healthy and glowing for a seamless makeup application!  Another option to get fresh, dewy skin is to get a spray tan or visit the tanning bed!

Don’t forget to whiten your teeth, too. You’ll want to make sure you have pearly white teeth. You can schedule an appointment  your dentist or use Crest White Strips {the best white strips they sell in the store and you can see a difference almost immediately}.

We recommend..

Crest White Strips $36.99 | Amazon.com

St. Tropez Self Tanner $32 | The Tanning Store

Now let’s talk about your bridal makeup if you’re hiring a makeup artist. (DIY makeup brides - don't worry - we've got tips for you below!) Take it from us – do not skip your bridal makeup trial! Most makeup artists require a trial, and we agree 100%! Waiting until your wedding day to see your bridal makeup for the first time is a huge no no. With the bridal makeup trail, you can see how your makeup looks in natural lights vs. photography lighting, etc.

The most important makeup tip is for your makeup to stay neutral and natural. You don’t want to try new looks like bright eye shadow or a bold lip that is too dark on your wedding day.  You want to look {and feel} comfortable and enhance your natural beauty. Extreme looks can also take away and distract from your wedding’s other elements which you don’t want to do. Of course every bride has her own style, but we recommend sticking to light and carefree makeup styles.

Because we may or may not be makeup collectors {hoarders} , let’s talk about must have makeup products if you’re doing your own makeup for your wedding day!

First, make sure to have concealer and primer on deck for last minute break outs or dark circles caused from a little wedding planning stress. Having a good foundation is also essential for a long day of festivities. These products will make your skin look smooth, clear and flawless.

We recommend...

ELF Poreless Face Primer $5.49 | Target

Sonia Kashuk $10.49 | Target

Another necessary product is waterproof mascara. Your wedding is a day full of emotions and it is normal to expect some happy tears here and there. Therefore, waterproof mascara will ensure that your makeup will stay on and not streak down your face. If you plan on wearing false lashes to add some volume, remember that the glue might loosen with tears. Make sure you still have a good waterproof mascara on hand for any emergencies.

We recommend..

** Pro Tip** Use the 'Alyssa #2' lashes in layers, starting from the inside and working your way out to achieve a more natural look!

Lashes starting at $5 | Sephora.com

Finally, all brides should complete their makeup look with setting spray. The setting spray will hold all of the makeup in place throughout hugs, tears, dancing and a few glasses of champagne ;).

We recommend...

Urban Decay Makeup Setting Spray $31.00 | Macys.com

87Loreal Makeup Extender $4.87 | Amazon.com

Of course, touch ups will be necessary throughout the day as you will probably be crying, eating, kissing, smiling, dancing, etc. So be sure that you have an emergency kit with blotting papers, loose powder and your lipstick!
