Valentine's Day is just one week away and while we're all for an over the top romantic gesture, sometimes you just need a real life date night option. So we've collected some of our favorite date night ideas that are budget, time and real life friendly. If your significant other is responsible for the Valentine's plans, share this post as a subtle reminder that they just have one week to make it happen.
Game Night
If you're not a fan of going out, grab your favorite board games and have a fun night indoors. For an extra touch for the competitive types, take bets on who will win the most games. Loser has to buy (or make!) dessert.
Build a Fort
Channel your inner kid with this idea. Grab all the blankets and pillows in your house, decorate with twinkle lights, and set up camp. Make or order dinner to eat inside your fort and pick a mini-series on Netflix to binge watch.
Explore a City
Whether you want a fun night out, or a cozy night in a different place, booking a hotel room (or an Airbnb!) makes this idea exciting and accessible. Look for a fun restaurant to kick start the evening.
Recreate a Date
Think back to your favorite date you've had together, and take a trip down memory lane! This could be anything from going back to the same restaurant, taking a walk in the same park, or renting the movie you watched that night.
Paint Night
Head on over to your local "paint while you drink wine" place with your significant other for a fun, creative date. You could also do this on your own if you don't want to go out, by buying two canvases and some paints and set up in your house. Decide on a painting to recreate on your own while you drink wine. We promise this one will provide a lot of laughter- especially if you're not an artist!
Plan a Picnic
Depending on the weather, this could happen outside like normal, or in your living room. Indoor picnics are just as romantic and temperature controlled. Buy your favorite take-out, grab a big blanket, and settle in. Guaranteed to end with a cuddle-sesh.
Attend a Sporting Event
This is a fun idea if one (or both) of you are a big fan of a specific team. Surprise your significant other with tickets to a game, and make sure you spend at least a little bit of money on (overpriced) snacks as you watch.
Hike to Watch the Sunset
This a cheap, fun date for those who love the outdoors. Find your favorite local spot, or go to a spot neither of you have been to before. Make sure you bring a blanket to sit while you watch the sunset. Make sure you pack some water and snacks for the walk there.
Get in the Car & Drive
This is a fun option for those spontaneous free-birds out there. Make a fun driving playlist, roll down the windows, and get on the highway. Play it by ear and stop when you're hungry, stop when you see something exciting, or just when you feel like taking a break. You'll make memories as you drive.
Roller Skating
Remember when you really wanted a hand to hold during the couples skate in junior high? Well now you do! Head over to your local roller rink for a bit of fun reminiscing - often times they have a themed Valentines Day night as well.
